Smart Crate
Smart Crate emphasizes the possibilities of responsible design and seemingly trivial product.
The product is for transportation and storage of bottles. The modified handles are to improve ergonomics in order to reduce pain and fatigue of joints and muscles when the crate is carried over a longer period of time. The new gripping possibilities leave the wrists, arms and shoulders relieved in a natural, relaxed posture. Also, the soft rubber coatings on the grips avoid the “cutting into hands” effects. The crates’ integrated design opens it up to a larger user group and it enables the elderly and disabled to hold them with ease.

Finding of the Jury:
This project is a well grounded design of a reusable carrying case for transporting bottles, etc. The jury found it very good to see the design process applied to an everyday working situation. There was a very good analysis of the various ergonomic considerations about how the product would be used on a day to day basis.
An area for further development is to reduce the amount of material and the weight of the case.
