  VentrAs
This design is a concept for the external parts of a mobile ventricular assist system.

If a human’s heart is too weak to maintain a cycle, a mechanical circulatory support is needed. A ventricular assist system consists of an internal pump, an external apparatus and the connection between the two. A patient continuously has to wear the external component, since it monitors and controls the mechanism, provides the system with energy and forms the interface between patient and the pump. VentrAs’ emphasis is on the interface and the attachment of the device. In contrast to former systems the patient has a choice between two compact external parts. One has advantages in the home environment; the other is made for or a more active lifestyle. The patient can decide which combination applies to his or her daily life.

Both VentrAs devices have a clear configuration and an intuitive interface to inform the patient and to give system and physical condition status instructions in case of an emergency.

  Finding of the Jury:
This product helps patients who are waiting for heart transplants, therefore making daily life possible. This “VentrAs” deals well with ergonomics, patient confidence and patient comfort.
Aesthetics could be improved by making the device less like medical equipment.
