  Rhein Plug-Ins
The concept of the “Rhein-Plug-Ins” reintroduces the tradition of bathing in rivers, therefore providing a mobile river swimming pool.

They function as an interface between humans, shore and river and attempt to lower reservations people might have about bathing in rivers. They are also intended to raise consciousness of the local environment and its potential for leisure activities. The complete system can be transported in a truck and assembled an the respective locations. The “Rhein-Plug-Ins” offer a new approach to the traditional non-movable bathing areas.

The base elements of the Plug-Ins are the units which consist of inflated floating devices made from polyethylen (PE). By way of hard-rubber connection devices they can be configured into an expandable bathing landscape. The Pool Plug-In, the central swimming area, is filled with clear, bacteria-free water from the river. The problem of water purification was easily solved by utilizing the energy derived from the river currents and specialized filter membranes. Other components of the project include arrangement of sitting areas, railing, exit help as well as a resting dune.

  Finding of the Jury:
This product is a very good example of a modular floating pontoon swimming area for rivers. It integrates a filtration system that uses the river water to make a clean swimming environment. The product has been resolved in a simple and effective way and has an elegant appearance. It’s another nice example of “dream real products” and should appear in very different areas.

Weather and winter durability could be deeper investigated.
