Mae
‘mae’ combines two central objects from the living room and kitchen, the refrigerator and the coffee table, into a new and novel product. The refrigerator takes on an external appearance which would allow it to blend into the coziness of the living room.
Even though the design of this symbiotic product puts a definite emphasis on the formal elements of a table, the functionality of the refrigerator remains unfettered. The seemingly small space for storing drinks and groceries provides room for significant package sizes. Due to the sliding door functionality, the table top remains usable even if the refrigerator is in an open state. The refrigerator‘s warm discharged air can escape through a decorative pattern of holes in the imitation tablecloth.
This innovative product offers an alternative for everybody who does not have a kitchen or who doesn‘t like to spend time in it. It also provides a solution for everyone who wishes to have an additional refrigerator in a separate room.

Finding of the Jury:
In design and use, this product exhibits a sense of humor by blending art and product design in a whimsical, ironic fashion in addition to its function. It also provokes thinking about how consumers interact with products.
The product is idiosyncratic and would not have mass-production opportunities.
