  qulp - 3th place
During training and competition, a cyclist loses several liters of body fluid through perspiration, making it necessary to rehydrate. Rehydration should begin at the appropriate time and should not only replace fluids, but also lost minerals.

‘qulp’ is a drink dispenser designed for mountain and racing cyclists which sets off an alarm when it becomes necessary for the cyclist to take in a certain type and quantity of beverage. In this way, the biker can avoid dehydration. The product includes a bracelet which is placed around the cyclist’s foot. The bracelet calculates the energy used by measuring the pressure exerted on it by the sole of the foot. It then converts used energy into calories and simultaneously into lost fluids.

Before starting to exercise, the cyclist chooses the quantity (in milliliters) that he/she will drink when it becomes necessary. When the dispenser registers that the cyclist’s lost body weight reaches the designated amount, the valve controlling the beverage opens and the fluid is pumped into the bottle. An alarm prompts the rider to drink the beverage and the device then resets in preparation for the next stage.

  Finding of the jury:
Personal design is a trend that has already opened new market opportunities for customized products. ‘qulp’ focuses on the hydration needs of bikers, in particular mountain and racing cyclists, offering them a personalized solution.

There are currently products on the market that measure calories and lost body weight. Existing products, however, merely use distance, time and velocity to establish these values. In contrast, ‘qulp’ calculates expended energy (exerted pressure) and uses this information to provide the cyclist with the appropriate beverage at the right time, thereby ensuring an optimal cycling experience.
