  Nanokatana
The principal aim of ‘Nanokatana’ is to provide various sitting positions in a single object. It can be used as a normal chair or stool, or as an intermediate seat – that is, as a support allowing the user freedom of movement without standing as well as the ability to rest without sitting down. It can also be folded up for convenient storage.

To change the chair from one position to another, the user holds the back with both hands. It rotates easily under the same force as is needed with any common folding chair. The seat and back form a system of four independent axes which are linked together by the legs. Through the interaction of the axes with the body’s weight over the chair, the seat back is kept largely stationary during use, making for stability and reliability.

This product saves money and space due to its multi-functionality. It is made of very light and durable materials. Among the benefits of these materials is that they change color to visually alert the user when he/she has sat for an excessive period, thus helping to avoid possible physical problems.

  Finding of the jury:
This product draws on technological developments in the field of nanotechnology. The design achieves a pleasing aesthetic quality in addition to its ergonomic and functional advantages. The form, materials and production processes have been developed on the basis of nanotechnological principles. This work is an example of how technological benefits can be used to create innovative consumer products.
