Regarding your role as BraunPrize jury member: What do you find most suspenseful about the BraunPrize?
I look forward to a breadth of original ideas, all concerned with pushing the limits of what we think design is and can be. Suspense will come from the few projects that ask the question "how far can we go"?.

How do you go about evaluating the submissions?
I think a more refined list of criteria will be arrived at once we take a look at the submissions, but to start with I will be looking for originality of scope - what is the purpose of the product and in which measure the purpose meets, satisfies or modifies human needs with a sense of responsibility and compassion.

What designs do you think especially highly of?
Objects that are beautiful without trying to be, where the aesthetic comes from elements that need be present for the performance of the purpose. The type of object where the elements have no choche but be beautiful because they do a beautiful thing. An African Djembe drum comes to mind, where every detail and every material used contributes to the sound of the instrument. In short, this the aesthetic of something useful.

Do you know Anne Stenros from Finland, the second external juror?
Although familiar with the work of the Design Forum Finland, I have never met Ms. Stenros. I look forward working with her on the jury.
