  Loop
‘Loop’ is a game intended to help parents of autistic children to exchange ideas with their child in order to gain a better understanding of the child’s thought process.

The game is played in four steps: planning, organization, playful activity and reflection. Using these steps, parents will undergo a learning process which could show them how to communicate and interact with their child. Five cheerful characters are described on cards and presented by the parents. The goal is for the character to appeal to the child in various ways and thereby motivate the child to learn how to communicate with his/her surroundings. In combination with a play mat the game allows for various activities and the course of play can take various directions.

The parents can take down notes during the game on the play cards and thus can reflect later on the experiences gained as well as record the child’s development.

  Finding of the Jury:
This well-researched educational product shows a particular sensitivity to the interactive challenges of autistic children and their parents. By creating an activity based on facial pattern recognition, the game develops autistic children’s ability to recognize emotions that come naturally to most children.

The designer should consider a way to store, transport and clean the product.
